Twitter pauses ads in Russia, Ukraine

Twitter has halted advertising in Russia and Ukraine in response to Moscow’s aggression on its neighbour.

The social media platform stated that it wished to “ensure essential public safety information is elevated and (that) advertisements do not detract from it.”

Russia has previously stated that it was limiting Facebook in reaction to the shutdown of several official media sites.

Roskomnadzor, the country communications regulator, accused Facebook owner Meta of violating “basic human rights and freedoms as well as Russian residents’ rights and freedoms” by censoring sites such as that of official news agency RIA Novosti.
