Street Fighter 6 announced – will it be a PS5 console exclusive?
Capcom has confirmed that Street Fighter 6 is in the works.
The developer unveiled the latest installment in the long-running fighting series with a 39-second teaser clip that depicts an arrogant Luke squaring off against a (very sweaty) Ryu, with the trailer cutting off to a Street Fighter 6 logo just before the two collide.
More information on Street Fighter 6 will be released in “summer 2022” (between June and September), so we expect Capcom to give us our first look at the game (along with some juicy details) at a conference during the Summer Game Fest/E3 period, as the developer holds an annual showcase during this time.
The Street Fighter 6 teaser trailer doesn’t offer much, save that Luke and Ryu will (unsurprisingly) be in the game. It’s unclear whether the characters will look like they do in the teaser, but we expect Street Fighter 6 to be released on PS5 and PC, which means that character models as realistic as those in the trailer (save for Ryu’s toes) aren’t out of the question.
However, it is unclear whether Street Fighter will be released on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Due to an exclusivity agreement between Sony and Capcom, Street Fighter 5 was exclusively available on PS4 and PC, however the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection was released on Xbox One. Capcom hasn’t announced the platforms for Street Fighter 6, but we’re hopeful that Xbox gamers won’t be left out once more.
While we anticipate to learn more about Street Fighter 6 at Capcom’s yearly presentation, the developer might hold off and disclose a slew of details on or around August 12, 2022, the Street Fighter series’ 35th anniversary.
Street Fighter 6 is unlikely to be released in 2022, but with Capcom set to divulge more information, we wouldn’t rule out a 2023 release. At this moment, though, it is completely hypothetical, given there has been no confirmation of how far the next Street Fighter is in its development cycle.
All we know for sure is that a new Street Fighter game is in the development, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it.
