JULY 8: According to Japan’s national broadcaster, former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has died.

Abe, Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, was shot while delivering a campaign speech.

The suspected attacker, a man in his 40s, was tackled and arrested on the scene.

According to the Nara City Fire Department, Abe was shot in the right side of his neck and left clavicle.

Officials previously stated that Abe was shot in the neck and chest, causing significant internal bleeding, and that he is receiving a blood transfusion in an attempt to save his life, according to his brother.
